In the same way that we use images of Jesus to aid us in lifting our minds and hearts to him, images of the saints and angels draw us closer to our older brothers and sisters in our heavenly family. We are reminded of the reality of the Communion of Saints, in Heaven, Purgatory and on earth pulling together as one family in Christ. As parents are pleased to see their children cooperate and encourage one another, so God wants us to seek not just his help and the prayers of friends and family on earth but also the intercession of the saints and angels in Heaven and to develop our relationship with them even now. And of course His Blessed Mother, Mary is the most powerful intercessor in Heaven on our behalf if we just ask.
