At Baptism, each of us was cleansed from original sin and brought into the family of God with the priest’s words, the pouring of holy water, and anointing with oil. Each time we enter the church, we bless ourselves as a reminder of our baptismal promises to renounce Satan, sin, and to live our faith in God. The holy water, as a sacramental, provides a grace in carrying out those promises.
You can also use holy water at home or when you travel. One or more holy water fonts in your home to hold a small amount of holy water to bless yourself or your family at morning/night prayers, or when leaving and entering the home can be put by bedrooms or near the front door.
A small holy water bottle can also be kept in your car or purse to bless yourself and/or to bless the place you are staying when traveling. This use of holy water on a daily basis gives us grace to help in living a Christian life while rejecting evil.
